SEDA Dental of Pinecrest is experienced in providing crown lengthening procedures to improve the overall look and health of your smile. Crown lengthening can be a confusing term to some since it sounds like it involves making the tooth longer. A more accurate term would be crown exposure since gum tissue is removed to reveal more of the tooth. You may consider crown lengthening for cosmetic reasons if you want to correct a "gummy" smile. It could also be performed if not enough of your tooth is visible to support a dental crown, filling, or other restoration. To learn more, schedule a consultation at our facility in Pinecrest, FL.

"I am so lucky to have found this place and to have it as my primary dental provider and after all of the positive experiences here. I am keeping it. To begin, it's a very clean facility and well kept, they have beverages in the lobby if you want to make a coffee or tea while you wait, they also have flexible timeframes for scheduling, and work to accommodate your schedule and are patient with you when you have to cancel or reschedule. For hectic schedules, they also follow up with appointments by sending reminder text messages and phone calls, which are very helpful so that you dont forget your appointment.Last but not least what keeps me coming here is the staff. The staff are very friendly/down to earth, relatable and professional (they are very competent, knowledgeable about dental care and know what they're doing),plus they really make you feel at home from the beginning to end, even during the dental procedure, they make the experience painless and full of fun and overall positive. After leaving the office not only will you feel good because you took care of your health but you will feel energized and able to continue your day or break up your week with a positive attitude, all because of the staff and the experience that they provided at Seda Dental Pinecrest. Candidates for crown lengthening are in good general health, especially when it comes to the gums. Conditions, like periodontal (gum) disease, may need to be treated before crown lengthening is performed. Most often, crown lengthening is performed for cosmetic reasons to correct a "gummy" smile. In these instances, excess gum tissue can be removed to improve the ratio of visible enamel to gums and give you a higher, more even gumline. However, crown lengthening can also be needed to perform a restoration. More of the tooth may need to be revealed in order to place a crown, bridge, or filling.
What To Expect
Before the procedure starts, a local anesthetic is used to numb the needed areas to make the process more comfortable. You may discuss other sedation methods during your consultation to help keep you calm and comfortable during the procedure. After your mouth is prepared, a small amount of the gum tissue is removed at a time to gradually reveal more of the teeth, and the gumline will be shaped for an even look. When the crown lengthening procedure is complete, the gum tissue will be sealed to stop bleeding and your mouth will be cleaned.
After your crown lengthening procedure, your mouth may be sore and swollen. Cold compresses and over-the-counter pain relievers can usually be used to minimize your discomfort, but pain medication and/or antibiotics may also be prescribed. It may be easier to follow a liquid or soft food diet for several days as your gums heal. You should carefully clean your mouth with mouthwash and soft brushing but avoid flossing. In some cases, you may need to schedule a follow-up appointment at SEDA Dental of Pinecrest to monitor your healing. We will also continuously check your gums and oral health at your annual dental exam.
The cost of a crown lengthening procedure may vary, depending on why the treatment is being performed. Dental insurance providers may cover a portion of the cost in some situations, but this is not always the case. In any event, our financial team will contact your provider to determine what your out-of-pocket costs will be before discussing your options for payment. If you do not have dental insurance, we will help estimate your costs during your consultation and give you more information on low-interest medical financing that can help make your dental treatments more affordable.
