Overview

SEDA Dental of Pinecrest is very excited to offer intravenous (IV) sedation to help our patients receive a more positive dental experience. IV sedation can be used on patients who experience anxiety or fear about going to the dentist. This treatment at our Pinecrest, FL facility uses anti-anxiety medication that is delivered directly into your vein. The medication can help keep you calm and relaxed during your dental therapies. Even though you are not actually asleep during the procedure, the relaxation and temporary memory loss may make you feel like you have been asleep. We can also adjust the level of medication, depending on your needs and to ensure your safety. To learn more about IV sedation, contact our office today.

Best Candidates

The best candidates for IV sedation may be patients experiencing anxiety about undergoing an extensive dental treatment. This sedation dentistry method helps you to receive the dental care you need without discomfort or fear. Prior to undergoing treatment, we will speak with you about the various sedation options our practice provides.

What To Expect

For IV sedation, a small needle will be inserted into your vein and the medicine will be administered. You will begin to feel the effects within a few seconds. We will begin to perform the procedure while monitoring the IV levels at the same time. When the procedure is complete, the IV will be removed, and you will feel awake within a couple of minutes.

Recovery

It is advised that you do not drive for at least 24 hours following IV sedation. You should arrange for someone to pick you up from our office and take you home. You may feel tired for the rest of the day so we recommend that you drink a lot of water to remain hydrated and rest if at all possible. In some cases, you could become nauseous or experience memory loss. These side effects will typically diminish within a day. If you experience any abnormalities or if your symptoms persist, you should contact our office immediately.

Insurance Coverage

IV sedation may or may not be covered in part by your dental insurance. Prior to receiving the sedation, our financial team will contact your insurance provider to determine any additional out-of-pocket costs. SEDA Dental of Pinecrest also provides financial planning and payment options to make treatment more affordable for most of our patients.
