Overview

Having impressions of your teeth taken used to be considered a long and sometimes uncomfortable process. Physical impressions require you to bite into a mold for extended periods of time, which is problematic for patients with a strong gag reflex. This is why SEDA Dental of Pinecrest is proud to provide a modern alternative to physical molds with 3D impressions. Using the advanced technology of intraoral cameras, 3D (also known as digital) impressions take precise scans of your teeth. This allows us to create an accurate model of your teeth that can be used to create dental restorations, like implants, crowns, onlays, inlays, dentures, and more. If you are in need of restorative dental work, avoid the stress and time of physical molds with 3D impressions at our practice in Pinecrest, FL.

Best Candidates

3D impressions are ideal for patients of all ages who have a strong gag reflex and/or people who want to avoid the stress of physical impressions. SEDA Dental of Pinecrest uses 3D impressions if you need a custom dental restoration, such as a crown, bridge, inlay, onlay, dentures, or removable orthodontic aligners (like Invisalign or ClearCorrect). 3D impressions are ideal for creating precise digital models of your teeth that can be sent directly to a dental laboratory or a CEREC machine.

What to Expect

During this procedure, you will relax in the treatment chair while the small scanning wand is passed around your mouth. This tool uses blue wavelength light to precisely capture all areas, corners, and crevices of your teeth. After the scanning is complete, a model of your teeth will appear on the monitor. If any areas were missed during the initial scan, a simple re-scan can be administered to catch the necessary areas, as opposed to using dental molds, which would require the entire process to be repeated.

Follow-Up

After your scans have been completed, they will be sent to a dental lab or a CEREC machine. Once your restoration or orthodontic treatment has been made based on your scans, we will be able to complete your treatment. We will keep your 3D impressions with your file. This will make it easier if you need a new restoration and to compare changes in your teeth.

Insurance Coverage

Insurance coverage for 3D impressions will vary. One of our team members can help coordinate your coverage with your insurance provider. We are happy to work with you to ensure that the payment process is handled smoothly, and we will inform you of any out-of-pocket expenses. If you do not have insurance, SEDA Dental of Pinecrest accepts many payment methods, and we can help you find low-interest medical financing.
